Garland Street Cherry Crate Pavillion

Taking my home town history into context in a pavilion for the new Indigo Motel was a dream come true just moving back to Traverse City after 11 years of experience out west and around the world.  I envisioned a experience of light and context as a way to connect to the actual history of Garland Street.  Wanting the pedestrians that experienced the area to really know why it is celebrated as the National Cherry Capital of the World. The concrete sculpted into cherry box repetitious forms stacked in juxtaposed positions exaggerating the complexity of our given time in history compared to what the street was initially used for.

Leelanau Montessori Public School Academy

The Leelanau Montessori Elementary School is an Adaptive-Reuse LEED® for Schools project that is very well in way to becoming a prototype on how to deal with our poorly constructed public buildings in our country. We are taking the existing building and retrofiting it to the highest sustainable standards and technology.  The images above are plans of the existing building and the adaptive-reuse future plans. The idea is to create a structure that actually teaches as much as shelter the children. Keeping all design moves for sustainability visual and a educational tool for the children and guides alike.  This is the type of project I have been dreaming to be apart of since I started architecture school and hope to start a trend leading in this direction of design and thinking about our childrens future...

Good Earth Residence

The Good Earth Residence project in Phoenix, Arizona is a holistic approach to sustainable design. The renderings above are to show the creative process through design development.  The building is to be completely self sufficient and run off a Geoexchange system, radiant cooling, and photovoltaics giving excess power back to the community.  Monsoon rainwater and greywater is harvested on site then put through a dynamic purification system to be used for on site vegetation and toilet water.
